University of Melbourne
I have had a long involvement with the University of Melbourne
Initially as a medical student (1971-77) during which time I was heavily involved in University sport.
In 2001 I was appointed the inaugural Associate Professor in Sports Medicine at the Centre for Sports Medicine Research and Education (later re-named CHESM – Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine) in the School of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
This appointment involved research and teaching of physiotherapy and medical students. My main area of research were stress fractures, groin pain, concussion (see published journal articles)
I also have an appointment in the Faculty of Law. This involves teaching a postgraduate law subject Sports Health and Medical Law (formerly Sports Medicine Law) with colleagues Hayden Opie and Dr Peter Harcourt.
